Food Service

Good nutrition can help support the immune system and strengthen the body. Our cafe provides food and drink for you while you’re at the Centre but it’s also there to help you consider how what you eat and drink can help your health. For more indepth information about the role of nutrition in, for instance, strengthening the immune system, visit our library or speak to our nutritionist.

Library and information

We have a range of books, magazines, packs, CD’s, DVD’s and cassettes about many types of cancer, their treatments, and related issues e.g. nutrition and exercise. All these may be borrowed for two weeks, free of charge. The therapists or the librarian can advise you or help you find reliable information.

The Centre

What we offer:
  • Unlimited, individual support at any stage of cancer,
whether you are a patient or a carer
  • Complementary therapies
  • A counselling service
  • A welcoming reception and meeting area
  • A tasty food service
  • A library and information service
  • Workshops about, for instance, yoga or nutritional advice
  • Friendship and support: from the staff and from all the people who come to the Centre
  • On your first visit: a tour round the Centre, a 1:1 private, confidential talk with a senior member of staff about your situation, and your first complementary therapy session (if you want one)

Complementary Therapy

When you first come to the Centre you can talk in private to a keyworker about your situation. We will need to ask about your health and any medication you are taking, to ensure any therapy you have is safe and appropriate for you. After every six treatments we discuss your situation, review your support, and agree what would be best for the future. It's also an opportunity to talk about how we can improve the service.

After a while you may not want to use the complementary therapies, or use them every time. That's fine. We’re happy for people to come for a chat, or for the Relaxation and Meditation session, or to borrow a book, or just for the atmosphere! In fact even by just coming and chatting you are helping someone else with their cancer journey.

New patients often say how much they have been helped by hearing about other people's experiences. For more information see our Therapies page.
